MARCH 21, 2006 IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The 2006 Mototours have temporarily been cancelled. Please check back for updates or E-mail Kari Prager for questions.

2006 California MOTOTOUR - Join us for all 5 rides!

Overnight Tour General Information

These trips are free. You are responsible for your own hotel charges and meals.

We ride rain or shine but avoid severe weather such as hurricanes, tornados and ice storms.

You are responsible for your bike being in reasonably good condition. Be prepared for flat tires and wide variations in temperatures. If you anticipate something is going to go wrong and prepare for it you'll have a perfect trip!

We ask that you sign up as soon as possible so we can help you confirm hotel accommodations. Hotels can be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to arrival with no cancellation penalties.

You should have a fuel range of at least 100 miles.

Carry water and a snack. Bring a camera.

We plan on riding approximately 200 to 250 miles per day. Side treks are available for those who wish to extend those distances. There are areas that can be enjoyed by dual sport bikes although all our planned routes are on paved surfaces - usually good ones.

We do not ride as a group. Ninety-nine percent of our riding is on two lane, lightly traveled roads and group riding is inappropriate. Riders are encouraged to find one or two people who ride at their pace and stay with them. Do not ride beyond your capabilities - the results are never worth it.

2006 will offer a slightly different type of overnight ride to our enthusiasts. We will plan for shorter daily rides with optional side-treks for those people who like to tackle a bigger challenge.

We will be concentrating more on fine food and hotel experiences. However, we always seek out the finest roads that California has to offer, combined with the most spectacular scenery.

Several things will not change. As always, there is no fee for these treks. We have also arranged for our van, driver and motorcycle trailer to accompany us.

RIDE ONE - Highway 1

Dates: March 18 - 19 (Sat - Sun)
One of our favorite places in California is San Simeon - reflecting the glory that is Highway One. This year we will be offering a Hearst Castle Tour but will be riding different roadways to and from the region.

RIDE TWO - The Trinity

Dates: April 12 - 16 (Wed - Sun)
In April we will head north instead of south. This year we will explore the region around Northern California: the Trinity – Weaverville Area. By mid-April most of the snow should be gone from the roads.

RIDE THREE - Yosemite

Dates: June 23 - 25 (Fri - Sun)
This is a three-day, two-night ride exploring the less seen regions of Yosemite National Park, the Hetch Hetchy reservoir and Camp Mather area. Riders will also be able to tackle some of the best High Sierra Passes, Tioga (Highway 120) and Sonora (Highway 108) with a side trek over Ebbett's Pass. Hiking will be encouraged - the waterfalls are awesome!

RIDE FOUR - Death Valley

Dates: October 4 - 8 (Wed - Sun)
This year we're going in the fall. The flowers may be scarce but the traffic should be nonexistent, the roadways freshly paved, and we'll see just how lovely this land can be anytime of the year (except in the dead heat of summer).

RIDE FIVE - Your Choice

Proposed Dates: July/August (TBD)
CAL BMW tries to find areas that reflect the beauty and wonder of California. We value your input and are happy to explore new horizons. For Ride Five we would like to ask you, our explorers and riders, where they would like to go for a slightly longer, perhaps unusual ride. Ideas have included The Pony Express Trail and The Grand Canyon.

If you are interested in any (or all) of these rides, please let me know and I will forward all hotel and road information and answer any questions you may have. The best way to contact me is via e-mail at jthurber80@hotmail.com.
